The Hossack Station - Where some of New Zealand's finest wild and free big game hunting can be found

Hossack Station bred horses

Bred for their hardy constitution, level headed attitude and trainability.

Hossack Station bred horses are quintessentially a south island high country station bred horse. Bred for their hardy constitution, level headed attitude and trainability. The Hossack station bred horse is quiet, easy to train and suitable for all disciplines and abilities. Here at the Hossack we use our horses mostly for stock work. Vehicle access is limited and with long distances to cover the horse is a fundamental part of station life which hasn’t changed for over a hundred years.

We have six medium to light boned NZ station bred mares and foals running on 1000 acres of river flats giving the foals that invaluable experience of river crossings, steep hill climbs and natural obstacles that are essential to a young horse’s training.

Our stallion “Jimmy” is a Clydesdale, station bred cross specifically chosen for his compact confirmation, strong constitution, strength and easy going temperament.

All our young horses are well handled, can lead and tie up by the time they are two years old. We are extremely conscientious with handling our youngsters and make sure their first experiences with humans are positive and stress free.

If you have an enquiry or would like to come and view our stock please feel free to contact us.
